Convert iPhone HEIC to JPG Locally in Your Browser

Apple iPhones and iPads shoot photos in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container, compressed with HEVC/H.265) by default to save storage space. While HEIC is compact, Windows apps, older Android devices, government upload portals, and CMS platforms routinely reject .heic files. Convert HEIC to universal JPEG right in your browser tab without uploading private photos to a remote cloud server.

Why convert HEIC to JPEG?

HEIC uses intra-frame HEVC video compression, which requires patent-encumbered decoders missing from many desktop workflows and web forms. Converting to JPEG (ISO/IEC 10918) produces a universally compatible 8-bit sRGB image that opens in every browser, email client, and document editor on Earth.

Private by design: zero uploads

Personal iPhone photos carry embedded EXIF GPS coordinates of your home, workplace, and family alongside facial recognition metadata. Most online HEIC converters upload your photos to a third-party server. trsf.it decodes HEIC locally inside your browser via WebAssembly and outputs a fresh JPEG with location metadata stripped.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC instead of JPG?

Since iOS 11, Apple defaults to HEIC because it stores roughly twice the visual quality of a JPEG at half the file size, plus 10-bit color and Live Photo streams. You can convert existing HEIC files here or switch your iPhone to JPEG under Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible.

Does converting HEIC to JPG in trsf.it remove GPS location data?

Yes. Because the conversion reconstructs the image from raw decoded pixel buffers in your browser, embedded EXIF GPS coordinates and camera serial numbers are not copied into the output JPEG.
